Young Carers Illustrations Project

Helping to support the Youngest Young Carers
Our project is currently operating in the UK and Japan and we are talking to potential partners in other countries . Our project team are all enthusiastically members of the Young Carers Alliance and are operating from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil , Kingston upon Thames in the UK and Nagoya in Japan.

Why is this so important?
There are many millions of young children around the world who are carers and yet there is no reflection of their lives in children’s literature. This we are setting out to change; initially through promoting the work of Ana Graça - film maker, artist and illustrator of children’s books. We hope that other artists will realise that there is a huge gap in the market and join in!
We know that the visual arts can play valuable role in helping practitioners in health, social care and community organisations in communicating with young children who are carers. We look to promote this approach and show its effectiveness.
Making a difference
Our Young Carers Illustrations Project is an informal collaboration that started with a chance conversation and commenced its first activities in April 2024. The scope and impact of what is being done has expanded very rapidly and we are now actively marketing an exciting range of products. In this website we outline of some of our current activities and future plans….. these are under continual review and expanded whenever the opportunity arises. If you have ideas about how to use or further develop our materials, please do get in touch.
