Meet Ana

The Young Carers Illustrations Project are proud to be highlighting the importance of recognising and supporting younger young carers; particularly focusing on the 4 to 8 years age range. Central to this has been the brilliant art work and story telling of illustrator and film maker Ana Graça.

Ana Graça. Ana has previously illustrated books published in Brazil and the USA and now, to widespread acclaim, in the UK is raising her voice in support of these little children whose needs are so often overlooked. Ana first became aware of young carers and their needs through participation in documentary film projects and became interested in using her art to raise awareness. Ana’s beautiful pictures are starting to cause ripples of change around the world, through highlighting the needs of our youngest young carers.  We hope that other artists and those from the world of children’s literature will follow her example and write about and for young carers.

Ana has made some of her artwork available as free downloads, to anyone in the world who is working to support young carers.  Ana retains copyright but freely gives permission for their use. For more details see - information in projects. If you have any questions about using these please do get in touch.

My Story

My name is Ana Graça (she/her), but online I often go by Pixie Ana. I'm a filmmaker and a children's illustrator from Brazil, now based in London.

I have graduated from a Master in Filmmaking at Kingston University London where I specialised in directing fiction. I am deeply interested in visual storytelling and I have a focus on world-building and stories for children.

For films and commercial works, I am most active on the art department, as a production designer or art assistant, and on the camera team as a self-shooter videographer and video editor. But I also have experience on the production and location departments, having worked for Apple TV.

Alongside film and photography, I have been doing work as a freelance illustrator for over 4 years now, under the name Pixieanadraws.

I specialise in children's illustrations and on pattern and surface design. I have collaborated on stationary and pattern design with many brands in Brazil and world-wide, and I have had two picture books published in the USA and an upcoming book in the UK!

I love drawing tiny animals and cosy and warm things, feel free to follow me along to see more of my creations.
