Our Young Carers Picture Gallery

We have held four workshops in March 2025, to help prepare new illustrations and a second picture. Through these, our artist Ana  Graça was able to connect with younger young carers and explore storytelling in an interactive and fun way.

Ana commented  “Using a Kamishibai (a traditional Japanese paper theatre), we brought “Young Carers in Bunnyland" to life . We did this with while encouraging the children to actively shape its narrative through their own interpretations of the book’s illustrations. This approach allowed each workshop to unfold in a unique way. For details of our use of Kamishibai

Following the storytelling session, the children had the chance to create their own characters. Through their drawings, they expressed their emotions and understanding of young carers in imaginative, fun and whimsical ways. At the end of each session, the children proudly presented their creations in the Kamishibai, weaving their characters into a shared story we all made up together.

These workshops not only sparked creativity but also encouraged meaningful conversations about young carers, helping some children recognise their own caring roles and the support available to them.

We are thrilled to share some of the wonderful drawings created during the workshops. We offered to the children the choice of taking their drawings home or leaving it with us - knowing that they would be used as inspiration for a future book and knowing that they would be shared online - so here they are! We hope you enjoy their creative characters.”

Our project is now interested in experimenting with some online workshops to give more children the opportunity to meet with Ana online while she is in Brazil. Young Carers would then have the opportunity to see their pictures added to our picture gallery if you think your young carers group or school might be interested in participating, let us know via our contact section on this website and we will be in touch.
